As I headed out last night on a much-needed good night out, I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to feature some of Sligo's nightlife on the blog. I do go out quite a bit at the weekend and have been to most pubs, venues and clubs in Sligo - not that there are hundreds. I decided to feature one of my favourites - Fifth On Teeling.
Fifth On Teeling is located on Teeling St beside Pure Nightclub in the centre of Sligo town - in Irish directions, it's just down from the Garda station and just around the corner from the Four Lights - one an ideal location to end your night out and one not so much.
What appeals to me most about Fifth On Teeling is the fact it's a dedicated live music venue, a much needed place in Sligo's nightlife scene. It's more than a bar but not quite a nightclub. Going to Fifth On Teeling is a refreshing experience, a welcome change sometimes from the jam-packed stuffy nightclub vibe (no having your foot nearly broken by some wasted girl standing on you in 6-inch heels whenever you move) and more exciting and intimate than sitting in a pub all night. The live music selection is impressive - local artists and bands get their chance to shine and grow by playing gigs in the venue and if live bands aren't your thing, the venue also often hosts DJ's and comedy clubs - definitely a welcome addition to Sligo.
Most gigs are free admission and the venue offers an impressive range of craft ales, spirits and all your usual tipples with some great drinks offers including Happy Hour and selected drinks 2 for €5 on Fridays (which I really appreciate considering all the times I've gone out for a 'quiet one' and come home with no money....) all with a late bar.
If you live in Sligo and just haven't checked it out yet I really do recommend it, or if you're just visiting Sligo and are wondering where to go at night, pop in to Fifth On Teeling. The staff are delightful, the decor is funky, the entertainment is always great and the drinks are cheap - what's not to like?
