So here's part 2 of my London account - if you want to read part 1 click here. The rest of the week went like this...
Wednesday we decided to stroll around the museums. We didn't want to do anything too strenuous as we planned to go to an all-you-can-eat buffet later - and I'm glad we took it easy that day because if there was ever an appropriate time to say 'food baby', it was then. We went to Global Buffet in Croydon; an all-you-can-eat restaurant that had just about any dish you could imagine: European food, roasts, Japanese (sushi and lobster included!), Chinese...not to mention the vast dessert section that even had two chocolate fountains. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
On Thursday we had a trip to London Dungeon booked. I have to admit I was a little nervous about going as I am the world's biggest scaredy cat but it actually wasn't too bad. The scariest parts were the incredibly rude tourists in our tour group acting up! What I liked about the Dungeons was that as well as being good fun it was also educational. I've never been a fan of history but being told about it in an entertaining way actually made me enjoy it. At the end of the tour there was a short drop ride to give the sensation of being hanged which I thought was a great addition. I could've bought a picture of me on the ride but I'm unphotogenic at the best of times so I thought I'd spare myself the embarrassment.
As the tour was only about an hour and a half we still had the rest of the day so we decided to cross off some more things on our list - getting photos of Big Ben and the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, Chinatown and of course Oxford Street, which I could've lived in. The Topshop had a hair salon and a tattoo and piercing parlour in it, for goodness' sake. Where else would you find that?! I have to admit I was ridiculously excited to visit Primark in the UK...our Penneys in Sligo pales in comparison.
We also headed to Camden which I loved, so much diversity that you'd never see in Ireland. Whatever you're after you can probably find it in Camden. If I had the money I would've bought so much, I saw about 50 shirts I wanted, but alas, I am a pauper.
Another thing I wanted to see was Platform Nine and Three Quarters in King's Cross station - the infamous Harry Potter landmark. I'm a big Harry Potter fan so of course I queued to get a picture with the sign. So worth it.
We decided to check out the nightlife in central London and around the area we stayed in on Friday and Saturday and it didn't disappoint. Whereas we only have a few pubs and clubs in Sligo there was a huge variety in London, every and any genre or vibe you were after. What I remember (hehe) I really enjoyed and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.
The transport was also a dream in London - handy, plentiful and reasonably priced. Whereas in Sligo you pay around €7 for a 10 minute train/bus ride, in England it was around £2! We did end up doing a lot of travelling and I somehow managed to survive rush hour on the Underground - go me!
On our last day before leaving we met Bethany's friend Florida for her birthday and went to another all-you-can-eat Brazilian place. I'm about 40 stone now..
So that's a brief (!) summary of my London trip, hope you enjoyed it and sorry it took so long to write! I'm just recovering from it. I need a holiday to get over my holiday..
