I've decided I want to start including more beauty/fashion posts on my blog as that's something that interests me but I've been a bit apprehensive about diving in. I want to show people I do other things apart from eat! I love doing my makeup and planning my outfits. I used to dedicate so much more time into organising my makeup and doing different looks every day and co-ordinating my outfits. Lately I've got stuck in a rut of wearing disco pants, jeans or loose trousers and plain tops. I sometimes miss the days I'd dress up for no reason at all, wearing pencil skirts dresses and heeled boots and matching jewellery. So my challenge for myself this summer is to try varying my makeup and outfits a bit more. That may sound vapid and shallow but I think it's good for your body confidence and makes you feel so much better if you're wearing something that looks great on you.
So, with that in mind, I've been following a lot more beauty bloggers on Facebook to get inspiration. I recently saw a post by Painted Paletteee (her Facebook page is here) with a picture of the beautiful Fortune Favours The Brave palette by Makeup Revolution, and I knew I just had to get it. I don't buy much makeup nowadays as my funds are limited, but Makeup Revolution are one of my favourite budget beauty brands. Their lipsticks are something crazy like £1 in Superdrug up the North and they're not that much more expensive down here. They also have a huge variety of products and for the price the quality is excellent.
I was in Limerick when I saw the post about the palette so I dragged my poor mum into Superdrug to see if by chance they had it. When I got to the stand I couldn't believe my luck - they had ONE left! I grabbed it and ran to the checkout like I was Usain Bolt (joking, I don't run). I opened it as soon as I got a chance and I have to say, it is a gorgeous palette. The palette consists of 30 shades, mattes, shimmers and glitters which are all impressively pigmented. Some of the glittery shades do come with the issue of fallout but nothing a powder brush can't sweep away. I also find with some shades you have to build up the colour more on the eye but for the price that's to be expected.
The palette is a collaboration with BritishBeautyBlogger (I've never actually heard of her but she must be well known to bring out a palette!) and contains shades for literally every skin tone, every age and every look. From a smokey eye to a nude eye look there's something for everyone in the palette. I personally love how the galaxy-esque glitter eyeshadows look, they're like little planets of eyeshadow.
The palette has a MASSIVE mirror which I love, no fear of any foundation lines or bad blending with a mirror this big. It also comes with a double ended eyeshadow brush which I'm not mad keen on but it's good if you're stuck. The packaging is very attractive, it comes in a nice sleek gold coloured plastic case which is the perfect size for throwing into your handbag. It is a little bit big for a standard makeup bag but that's understandable considering how many shades you get in there.
So. Pretty.
The palette costs €13.55 from Superdrug which I think is fantastic value for money. In the UK it retails for £9.99 so not that much of an increase in price over here. I haven't seen it in any shops in Sligo (as far as I know Toher's chemist is the only stockist of Makeup Revolution in Sligo but any time I've gone in there the stand is low in stock which is a pity) but if I see it anywhere I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed this post, it's a little bit different from my usual posts but expect to see more like this soon!
